The trimmer is broken

A defective appliance needs a 7-day replacement on a first defect but a cash refund when a replacement already failed. RiskGate checks the return ledger so the right remedy runs the first time.

01 · What happened

The situation

More than half of 85,907 public Indian e-commerce support tickets are returns or refunds. A typical one: a Nova NHC-5916 trimmer (₹799) arrives defective, and the customer asks for a refund. The bot ranks refund first, replacement second.

02 · The miss

Why the obvious safeguard didn’t catch it

The published policy says small appliances are 7-day replacement only, with at most one replacement. Refunding every defect breaks policy; never refunding traps the customer whose replacement also failed.

03 · RiskGate

List, play forward, decide

  1. RiskGate asks what could be true: first defect, repeat defect, or already refunded. The refund is safe in only one world.
  2. It checks the return ledger first: read-only.
  3. First defect? Refund skipped, replacement certified. Replacement also failed? ₹799 refund certified now. Every decision leaves a signed receipt.
04 · At scale

What held, and the price

As with the quick-commerce story, the simulated evaluation is not shown because it depends on an assumed mix of worlds. What carries over is the mechanism: the bot's ranked candidates are checked in order and the first one safe in every world runs.

The SDK is open source (Apache-2.0): pip install --pre riskgate, with full documentation. If it helps, a star on GitHub helps others find it.

Try it from your own agent: agent skills for Claude, Gemini CLI and Codex (/plugin marketplace add reallysaurabh/riskgate in Claude Code).
